Jagged Little Pill

Jagged Little Pill is a story about a picture-perfect family and hard-to-swallow truths that are ultimately healing. It is a rock musical with book by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody, and music by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard. Inspired by the themes and emotions from Morissette’s 1995 album of the same name, the musical deals with pain, healing, and empowerment. It is a once-in-a-generation musical that “takes on the good work we are always asking new musicals to do.”

Mary Jane Healy, the mother, is obsessed with keeping it all together even though her life is getting out of control. But when their lives are disrupted by a series of disturbing events, the Healy’s face the harsh truths about themselves, their community, and the world around them.

The musical premiered at the American Repertory Theatre in May 2018, directed by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. Jagged Little Pill features Morissette’s iconic songs including “Ironic,” “You Oughta Know,” and “Hand in My Pocket” as well as a new song, “a big-hearted musical that breaks the mold.”

The show will premiere on Broadway in fall 2019.
