THE YOUNG’UNS

The Young’uns are one of the UK’s hottest folk music properties and one of the best-loved acts from Stockton, England. Awarded BBC Radio 2 Folk as the “Best Group” in 2015 and 2016, they specialize in singing unaccompanied and performing traditional shanties. The three members- Sean Cooney, David Eagle, and Michael Hughes met as teenagers and encountered folk music as underage drinkers in a local pub.

The Trio started frequenting the Sun Inn in Stockton-on-Tees in 2003. As folk newbies, the three realized that singing unaccompanied could mean starting a new band without any instruments. With their strong songs and rapid-fire humor, they could touch the most current issues and make people laugh as well as cry.

The Young’uns released a book “Bound Together” which centered around their history as a band and stories behind some of their songwriting. Their work also includes “You Won’t Find Me on Benefits Street”, “The Battle of Stockton”, and 9 new songs from the 2017 album Strangers. In 2018, Strangers was crowned ‘Best Album’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Enjoy THE YOUNG’UNS live with their special human touch at The Saint in Asbury Park or The World Barn in Exeter.
